Niú shé (Beef Tongue) is one of the most popular of current trending meals in the world. It’s enjoyed by millions every day. It’s easy, it’s fast, it tastes yummy. Niú shé (Beef Tongue) is something which I’ve loved my entire life. They are nice and they look wonderful.
It can be eaten with the optional sauce I have listed, or be a main dish. This is a recipe my Grandma would cook when I was little. Like most kids, when I found out what it was, I would not go near it.

The ingredients needed to make Niú shé (Beef Tongue):
- Get 1 Beef Tongue
- Prepare 1/2 tsp salt or to taste
- Make ready 1/8 tsp black pepper or to taste
- Make ready 2 medium Bay leaves
- Make ready 1 tsp whole all spice
- Make ready 1/2 tsp whole cloves
- Make ready 1 large yellow onions just peel and keep whole
- Make ready Optional Sauce:
- Get 2 cups water to 1 cup ketchup
The beef tongue is ready when a knife is easily inserted into the middle of the flesh with little resistance. Remove the tongue from the pot and discard the water. Peel the skin away, if necessary using a small knife to remove any stubborn bits. Discard the tongue skin. 牛筋: niú jīn: beef tendon: 牛舌: niú shé: beef tongue: 牛尾: niú wěi: oxtail: 牛肚: niú dǔ: beef tripe: 牛柏葉 or 牛百葉: niú bǎi yè: beef tripe from the omasum, i.e. the third chamber of the stomach (leaf/book/bible tripe); the names literally mean "cow's cypress leaves" and "cow's hundred leaves" respectively Just made beef tongue in the pressure cooker and it turned out great!
Instructions to make Niú shé (Beef Tongue):
- Fill a pot with water, then place the tongue in the pot. Then add the spices in the pot. You want to do this in order so the spices are not under the tongue.
- Cover the pot, and cook over a low simmer for about 2.5 hours. You will know it is cooked when a knife can easily cut into the tongue.
- Once done, place the tongue on a plate and peel off the skin.
- Now the tongue cab be eaten with the optional sauce with the onion from the pot, and eat it like a soup. It can also be cut up for a sandwich or with a vegetable side.
It's like a mild, tender beef pot roast. I didn't even cool it off first, just took it out of the broth and pulled at the peel with two forks. The dog will get the peel and the few gristly bits as part of her breakfast. Boiled Beef Tongue Recipe (Lengua de Res) is not something that you see on very many restaurant menus, or even on very many dinner tables of homes, but it is actually a very affordable meat that can be just as good as any other cut of beef (well maybe not the steaks and prime rib part). Making this pastrami beef tongue recipe takes some time, patience, and a little elbow grease.
