Upma varies depending on our choice of adding different types of veggies. Wheat Semolina Upma: -Wheat semolina is another healthier option when compared to white semolina. Upma prepared using wheat semolina is very tasty. Add mustard seeds, channa dal, urad dal and onion.

Instructions to make Semolina Upma:
  1. Heat ghee in a pan. Add mustard seeds
  2. When the mustards splutter, add curry leaves, ginger, onion, and green chillies
  3. When the onion turns brown, add required salt, then add water and allow it to boil.
  4. When the water comes to a rolling boil, lower the flame to its lowest. Then add the semolina in 4 to 5 batches with a spoon.
  5. Once you add the semolina, stir immediately then add the next batch of semolina. Stir again and this way keep on adding and stirring the semolina up to the last batch.Quickly stir and mix well. The grains absorb water and thus swell and get cooked.
  6. Cover and allow the semolina upma to steam for 2 minutes on the low flame.then swtich off the flame. here the semolina is cooked and the upma is ready.

Add semolina and saute until light brown. Add remaining ingredients, except coconut, and mix well. This upma needs a slightly grainy variety of rawa to be used. Not the Bombay Sooji variety which is extremely fine and used for coating.
